Airlie Beach to Alva Beach

6/7/2015
In the morning, I was stocking up on some fresh groceries and wild caught snapper in Cannonvale. Afterwards I picked up the Australia edition of the Lonely Planet book from a former neighbor from Matthew – I forgot it on Bribie Island when we had the big night. Oh dear.

Made a quick stop at the beach at Bowen and repeated my mistake of grabbing a coffee – again, not the right thing to do, but I seem to want to suffer instead of accepting it. Even after the instant coffee on the sailing boat, this coffee didn't go down much better than it. Disgusting!

Continued on to Ayr and then left the main road to drive the 16 km to Alva Beach, a tiny village on the coast. The local camp site is great, with mainly Grey Nomads around.

Walked the sandy, 4 WD track down to the beach and had an awesome photography session in the late afternoon with a lot of wild life. Great location here!

Distance traveled: 224km

In the morning I enjoyed another healthy breakfast and shared a coffee with a young guy from Israel, who is hitchhiking in Australia at the moment. He just finished his 3 year (!) compulsory military service in Israel – even the women have to serve at least 2 years (!) in the military there – and is now traveling around the world. Had some fascinating conversations about traveling, differences in various countries and the military.

Afterwards I sat down next to respond to some emails and update the blog. Happy days and plenty of sunshine and blue sky again!

Camp site to my liking

Bird on top thinks: "What the hell are they doing down there?"

Gotcha

Pull!

And leave quickly before the others get onto it

Stay in there!

Caught one of them sleeping
