The last trip to site - at least for a while

After the countless trips to my projects' site last year, mainly for meetings, beatings and a few more meetings, I recently had the chance to see a bit more of the overall plant and equipment, not just our three machines. It's quite amazing to see these pieces of infrastructure in operation - remembering how it looked like about 15 months ago when we went to site with the first few modules of steel structure and found our construction pad not ready yet. A mountain of work ahead of us, and flooded roads behind us.
Ain't she beautiful?

It was a very difficult installation but thanks to my fantastic team on site and in the office, we delivered a successful project and in the end, even got some praise for it.

The Pilbara is a really special place, with such rich color. The red dirt, the blue sky, the white of the clouds and the greenest of greens when the vegetation sees some rain. An almost eerie place.
Flying to mine site airports is good, flying out of them great- no bureaucracy, no security checks, and a very rough looking crowd of people waiting for the flights to come. Flights to take them back to their families, to their normal lives in the cities and villages, back home from the time on site. FIFO - Fly In Fly Out, is the name of the game up here. Hard, long roster, especially for the people involved in the construction. Living in camps, everybody wearing the same cloths, obeying all the strict rules (and there are many!) - sometimes reminds me of the time in the army.

But I digress. Looking out of the windows of a plane is wonderful. Often times I flew up when dawn was breaking and back in the twilight or at dusk. Above the clouds, or within them. Stunning views and serene moment, often after a long and challenging day.
Ueber den Wolken, muss die Freiheit ...
