After a good nights of
sleep, a tasty and healthy breakfast and realizing that I forgot my
Aeropress at the last campground, I made my way to Coffs Harbour to
visit another boutique coffee roaster and buy a new Aeropress.
The Artisti Coffee HQ is
an awesome place to enjoy coffee or two, a snack and/or do a bit of
work as they offer free WiFi. They have a lot of single origin
coffees and some blends. I also tried the cold drip coffee, but I'm
still not a big fan of cold coffee.
Bought a new Aeropress and
some Brazilian beans. Unfortunately they were also sold out on
hand-grinders (like the folks in Port Mac), thus, I asked them to
grind the beans for me. They on the top of their game as they even
asked if I use paper or metal filter with the Aeropress. They
recommend a coarser ground coffee for the metal filter. Hallelujah!
A perfectly made flat white - I wish we could get our coffee shops in Austria to jump onto the band wagon in regards to great coffee and nice presentation |
As there were frequent
showers again today, I drove to Byron Bay, mostly on the highway and
only the last bit on the tourist road.
Byron Bay and dramatic clouds |
As it was sort of dry, I
walked along Cape Byron up to the lighthouse, passing the easternmost
part of Australia. Lovely walk, great scenery and like 9 years ago, I
saw a pack of dolphins hunting far below me in the big waves. Wrong
lens on my camera unfortunately, so you can only vaguely see them.
Another shower coming in |

Dolphins - hunting |
Byron Bay is a Mecca for
surfers and tourists and I was quite surprised when I checked in at
the caravan park that they not only charge a bit more, but
ridiculously much more than ANYWHERE else that I have stayed on my
whole trip. In fact, it is more than twice the price on what I
usually pay at caravan parks. To be fair, the location is great and
the facilities as well from what I can judge so far, but that is
“taking the piss” as the Aussies would call it.
Anyway, I walked into
town, and after a brief period of dry weather, another shower dumped
some water on me – well, at least it is warmer up here and my
cloths needed washing anyway.
There are a large number
of black bush turkeys on the camp site (apparently they are a
protected species here) and surprisingly many Kookaburras – even
close enough to get a full body shot with my general purpose lens.
I'll have another tasty
steak tonight, a big bowl of salad and a quiet evening.
Distance traveled: 276 km
